This is one of those ingredients that will be hard to replace if you are looking to cook authentic Indian cuisine. This was a tricky one to find. Luckily the owner of the store helped me out. International House of Spices has a LARGE selection of Shan products and the owner of the store told me the FDA has made labeling so strict and confusing that it is hard to know what products are what. Luckily he corrected my choice when I went to check out. I have a recipe for Nita’s Dal Makhani – Beans and Lentils (recipe below) and I was unfamiliar with a few of the ingredients. So I did my research via Google and then talked to the owner to see if they had the product. He guided me in the right direct.

These are a great snack. Spicy and crunchy. I keep them in my desk and add them to soups or just eat them by themselves.
I bought this for the healthier coconut shrimp recipe. My friend Krissy gave me the recipe and mentioned that the shrimp didn’t brown very well. I thought that by using the powder I would be able to get them to brown during the baking process.
